What it does

Built for a Canadian winter

Rated from −35 °C to +75 °C with the battery fitted. That is the specification that matters here: a tracker that stops reporting in February is not a tracker. Most battery units in this class give up around −10 °C.

Sealed against the weather

IP68 — dust-tight and sealed against immersion, not just splashing. It mounts on the outside of a trailer, a container, a skid or a machine and stays there through rain, road salt and a pressure wash.

Batteries that keep their charge

Non-rechargeable lithium thionyl chloride cells, which self-discharge very slowly — the reason an asset can be parked for a season and still report. It takes one or two cells, so the running time is a choice you make at fit-out.

Wakes on movement

An onboard accelerometer brings it out of deep sleep when the asset is moved, and it reports on a schedule while stopped and while moving. Being towed off a yard does not wait for the next scheduled report.

Reads nearby sensors

Bluetooth 5.2 LE, so it can pick up temperature, humidity and movement sensors placed on or inside the asset and send their readings back with the position — without another device or another SIM.

Updated without a site visit

Firmware and configuration update over the air, so a change to reporting behaviour across a whole deployment does not mean sending anyone out to touch the units.

Where it is suited

This is the outdoor unit. It is sealed, cold-rated and meant to be mounted where the weather gets at it — the opposite trade-off to a thin concealed tracker, which hides better but has to stay inside something. It is larger and heavier because the case and the cells are what make the specification possible.

Common questions

How long does the battery last?

Teltonika does not publish a single figure, and neither will we. It depends on how many cells are fitted, how often the unit reports and how cold it is — the difference between an hourly report and a daily one is enormous. Tell us how often you need to hear from the asset and we will work out the expected life for that configuration before you buy.

Can it go outside on a trailer through winter?

Yes — that is what it is for. IP68 and rated to −35 °C with the battery fitted. If your assets sit indoors or need to stay hidden, the Asset Tracker LT is the thinner, more concealable choice, but it is not rated for outdoor winter use.

Are the batteries rechargeable?

No. They are lithium thionyl chloride cells, which is deliberate — they hold their charge far better than a rechargeable cell, which is what allows an asset to sit for a season. When they run down they are replaced rather than charged. Note that Teltonika warrants the batteries for six months and the device for twenty-four.

Will it work on Canadian networks?

Yes. It covers the LTE Cat M1 bands the Canadian carriers use, carries IC certification, and falls back to 2G where Cat M1 coverage is thin.

What can the Bluetooth do?

It reads nearby Bluetooth LE sensors — temperature, humidity, movement — and sends their readings back with the position. That is how you monitor what is inside a container, not just where the container is. Tell us what you need to measure and we will confirm which sensors suit before quoting.
