Why an AirTag isn't a GPS fleet tracker

Probably for the same reason you wouldn't use a hand drill to drill a three-foot hole through concrete. It is just not the right tool.

It depends on other people's phones

An AirTag has no connection of its own. It relies on somebody's phone being nearby over Bluetooth. When no phone is near it, you can't track it.

It tells you nothing about how the vehicle is used

An AirTag won't tell you when the ignition went on or off. It doesn't give you trip history, time on site, reports or alerts. It is not a fleet management or GPS tracking tool. For running a business, it is closer to a toy.

If it works for you, use it

If you can get away with one, buy it and try it. If it gives you the information that helps you grow your business and understand what is going on, use it. If you need to know where your vehicles are, when they started and stopped and how long they spent at each job, you need the right tool.
